An introduction to playing Ludo

Bring your attention to one round of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Give this approach a try

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Aim for this result

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Choosing and moving on screen

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

An example before you play

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

Pay attention to this rule

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
