A practical guide to Memory Pairs

Try Memory Pairs at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Practice with a purpose

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Make the next step deliberately.

The goal to keep in mind

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Making your moves

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Keyboard and screen controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

Work through an example

Turn over one card, remember its position, then choose a second. A matching pair stays found; a mismatch is hidden again. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the controls nearby.

A useful caution

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Compare the situation with the worked example. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
