Snake: what to know before playing

Read the aim of Snake, then make your first move. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the example below to understand a decision. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Look at what changes after your first action.

Practice with a purpose

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Notice the feedback after each input.

The goal to keep in mind

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

The steps to play

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

The controls to know

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

Follow the example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Choose a deliberate next step.

One detail worth checking

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
